MATTERS of the HEART

SWEET POISON

Never heard of a sweet poison
Until you came along
You beckoned to me for a drink
And I find myself leaning in.

I know I should be allergic
As you’ve always been toxic
But still, I thirst for a sip
Like it’s an antibiotic.

I get drawn closer everyday
And I wonder if this pull is magnetic
Because this is all so surreal
How I never miss the thrill.

That comes with your presence
And the loneliness
That accompanies your absence
Should death be so alluring?

I ask myself over and over again
Because I want a taste
And whatever comes next
I’m ready to embrace.
