MIRROR'S CORNER

STILL I STAND

In the face of adversary,
Fighting death as though fighting an enemy
Each breathe competing and struggling for air;
Still I stand.

Each cell juggling for oxygen,
Bones waiting patiently for blood circulation,
Untimely death of the red blood cells,
Smiling though suffering;

Strong as the tower but weak
Fighting for a right to live,
Begging not to have pains;

Pains flushing in like an ocean,
Still yet standing tall like an iroko tree,
Complications arising like that of a tornado,
But living through as if nothing ever happened,

Don’t know if death awaits,
Don’t know if pain is close by
Don’t know if I can surpass the challenges,
But definitely know the sun is going to shine again;

With all this pain and breathlessness,
With all the discrimination and solitary,
With everything going against the nature,
I know, still I stand!
