EDIFYING

THINK

Before you castigate
that woman
selling dozen of oranges
by the roadside.

Think,
she has five children
at home to cater for.

Before you rain torrents of abuses
on that man
wearing a tattered cloth.

Think,
He is the father of four
and the breadwinner of his home.

Before you stamp the pride
of that employee of yours
with your high heel.

Think,
someone calls her Mother.

Before you slap
that gateman
for touching your blazers.

Think,
the security of his home
depends on him.

Before you are caught up
in the ecstasy of the moment.

Think,
you might not be privileged
to see the breaking of another dawn.
