The background of the book, Tourism and Hospitality: Evidence from Nigeria, reflects to a large extent its country of origin, as most illustrative examples used were derived from the destination. This was intended to give the local reader a feel of the Nigerian tourism and hospitality environment and to the international reader, to have a knowledge of the trajectory of tourism development in Nigeria, which is necessary for comparative studies.
The book was conceived to fill the hunger for academic materials in the field of hospitality and tourism authored by Nigerians or what one will call “home-based”. However, there are few home breed textbooks in this area, most of them have a narrow scope, and some are focused on specific issues in the field of hospitality and tourism. This book is wider and deeper in scope.
The book is designed to serve as an introductory text for students in the basic programmes in hospitality and tourism trade and specializations- luxury management, tourism management, hoteling, restauranting, travel and tour management, tourist transportation management (aviation and marine transport), event management, attraction management, private security and safety management, health and fitness hospital and health management, regional and urban development, real estate management, destination marketing and management, etc.
The author adopted a functional approach in writing the book. The book is divided into two major parts: – understanding tourism and hospitality- evolution, concepts, and nature and Analysis of tourism and hospitality industry sectors.
