The book is about a young post-graduate student in Africa. He finds himself among two friends who genuinely love him and want to do everything to have him. The fight to be the apple of the eyes of the young man begins with unconscious jealousy and later hatred. Akanni as he is fondly called by one of the lovers was careful not to chase a land squirrel with cutlass and lose both cutlass and the land squirrel. He was caught between the Pharaoh and the red sea. Akanni eventually chooses the one whom he thinks is best for him and is ready for the consequences afterwards as there is no one without malfeasance.
Cultism as one of the predominant vice in Africa is featured in the book. Most university students in Africa, especially those from religious homes get carried away with the euphoria of life on campus. The kind of life their faith warn against and which of course, their parents and guardians frown at. The aftereffects of a careless undergraduate who chooses to be carried away in African Universities is disastrous because education has been bastardized that only a few graduates can sail through without being involved in one or two corrupt practices on campus.
